Somebody Make Up Their Minds Already

Today we started the eight hour workday. While I'm sure to bemoan the loss of paycheck that entails, it sure was nice to be out of work at 2:00 in the afternoon. It would have been even nicer if I'd accomplished anything with this particular afternoon, but there's always tomorrow. Meanwhile at work, thanks to the recurring problems that have plagued us lately -- the Machine Shop's inability to keep us in barrel actions and/or supply us with the parts we need -- we didn't come anywhere close to reaching the numbers the company wanted us to reach, instead leaving us with plenty of downtime throughout the day. So it's not a perfect system.

Next week, however, the eight hour days are scrapped in favor of ... wait for it ... a week consisting of four ten hour days. Yes. This is something that people at LSI were literally begging for, but could never get. Instead, we're trying it out. At least, we're trying it out until the Powers That Be change their minds and shift us around in some other way. I am interested to try this, though. Next week it's Monday through Thursday, but the week after -- because of Inventory -- it's Tuesday through Friday, meaning that in the middle there is an actual, honest to Eris, four day weekend, one of the rarest occurances in nature outside of the Thanksgiving holiday. That will be pretty sweet.

In other news, it's freaking *hot* around here. I realize that half of my readership lives in Florida, and will therefore scoff at my paltry notions of what hot is, but for these parts it was practically face-melting out there this afternoon. Inside the plant it was scorching, even with fans hitting me from every conceivable direction. It's supposed to be just as bad tomorrow.

Due to the hot weather, my car has once again started it's thing where it'll stall out when I try to turn it on. And I'll have to start it three or four times to keep it running. And every so often it'll stall out when I'm on the road. As I'm not much of a gearhead, I don't know what's causing all this, so I guess I'll have to have the old girl looked at by professionals.

And that's all I have for today.
