So at my Place of Employment there's been a movement to get everyone's hours down to eight(8) a day, which would be down from the ten(10) that I started at ... plus frequent Saturday mornings. And that's starting next week. However, there will be opportunity for most of us to stay most days to work on repairs for an extra hour, which I'll most likely take advantage of. Overall, though, even though that means a smaller paycheck, I'm pretty much ok with this.
There are a lot of things I want to do, most of which don't require me to have a lot of extra spending money in my pocket. One of the things I lamented when I first took this job was how much of my time it actually ate up. Of course, back then I was communting in from Lebanon, which was another hour or so round trip added on top of the crazy hours. But this new job did leave me with less free-time than I was accustomed to having, which meant less time for writing above all. But the size of the checks, often containing up to 15 hours of overtime, were a definite plus, and that extra money helped me finance the move out of Lebanon and into this nice apartment. And I've gotten to the point where even with less money I can still live pretty comfortably here in Newport.
And even without a lot of spending money I'm already pretty loaded up with things to do. I have enough DVDs to last me months (and I'm itching to do Buffython II; the first one took me three months to complete), and that doesn't even include Netflix (which is still in the budget). I haven't been doing enough reading lately either, and I probably have enough unread material here to last me the next ten years if I never bought another book or comic book. Seriously.
Finally, there's the one thing to which my increased free-time will definitely benefit: the book. For months I've just been squeezing in time to write here and there whenever I could, and now I can really dig in hard. Because, really, it's the most important thing I can be doing, so I really ought to do it.
And that's what's going on.
