Alyssa and Emma

In writing news, I've finished chapter 6. I'm not sure I hit all the notes as strongly as I wanted to, but I can always look it back over in a day or two. Still, it ends on an interesting scene involving Kelly, Alyssa, and Emma. The second of three showdowns occurs at the very end (Kelly vs. Kim was the first one), Kelly and Emma spend some time alone for the first time, and the general dynamic that's forming between the three of them is explored. There's a lot going on there.

And tonight I started chapter 7. Everytime I go to Borders now I realize that my time there is growing shorter and shorter as the impending move away from West Lebanon approaches. I am the sentimental sort, so I note this with a little sadness, as Borders has been very good to me, and I've spent a ton of time there over the past few years. Yeah, I know I can still come over here and work, but it won't be an everyday thing anymore.

So anyway, chapter 7. I didn't get too far, but I got a good feel for what's going down. We start out with Kelly and Alyssa, and they do another one of their series of conversations where Kelly tries to find out more information than Alyssa wants him to know, and is therefore evasive to the point that Kelly gets frustrated. Those scenes are always fun to write, and more information does pass between them than might meet the eye, too. The scene is then interrupted by the introduction of Officer Rose, who also has a keen interest in Alyssa's doings. This is where some creative license comes into play, since the character of Rose is in fact based on the little dick of a state trooper who used to harrass me back in 1998. So I take no small relish in portraying him as just such a dick.

I left off right where he comes in, so that's where I pick up tomorrow.
