I think with time I'll be liked and respected by the people in my cell. Even though I'm still struggling a bit with some stuff, the people have taken to me pretty well. I'll talk about that group at a later time, though. I'm not sure it'll ever be like it was with me, Starr, Skip, and June at LSI, but I think I'll do ok. However, on second shift, apparently, I am a hated man. How did this come about? I'll tell you the story.
My girlfriend, Jennifer, is something of a force of nature. You may have already gotten the gist of that from previous posts, but just to be clear ... she's kind of an F5 coming through your trailer park with little to no warning. You've seen what she's done to me, even way early on when I was trying to fight it off. It's just impossible. She's too cute and funny and sexy, and a huge flirt, and it overpowers you. People like her wherever she goes. Such is the case at Rugers, where she's working on second shift. Jen is a popular girl.
She called me again this morning. Insomuch as I am barely alive at 3:30 in the morning, I'm probably not the greatest conversationalist, especially on the telephone, but I hung in there. She mentioned that I am a hated man on second shift, because there seem to be a lot of guys there who want to get into her pants, and yes those were her exact words. That isn't how I would put such a thing. And while I'm sure she's tempted, she's told them that sorry ... she's taken. Thus the legend of Sparky continues. What is the deal with this mysterious kid who somehow landed a hot dish like Jen? Sorry, fellas. That's how it goes. For however long I can hang onto this relationship by my fingernails, I'm going to hang onto it.
I'm just hoping two things:
a) she sticks to calling me Sparky, rather than by name, since these guys evidently know I work there on first shift.
b) she's exaggerating that they *hate* me.
I don't think I'm weathering the Jen thing nearly as well, but I am going to hang on for the time being, and I am going to enjoy the notoriety that comes from having a girlfriend that other people desire.
